CLIENT: Test project with Makers & Allies
BRIEF: Create a wine label which strikes emotion of tells a story. Price point of $20 which will be sold at Trader Joes or Whole Foods.
I asked my friends over at Makers & Allies for some hands on experience which would reflect tasks given to prospective interns. They shared a wine label test project. I visited the suggested retailers, noted the shelf placement of similarly priced bottles, indicated what was missing in the market, and lastly implemented a design I felt was unique and told a story. I love old cars. The wine name was Artifact which lead to my brand identity idea. Similar to wine, cars get better as they age, in my opinion. So the old car in the photo is meant to represent the quality of age. I wanted to implement more depth to the identity so I took after old encyclopedia pages by placing the pronunciation and figure number around the image.
TAKEAWAY
This was one of my first ever design projects and I learned a hell of a lot not only from the design and building process but from the following critique. I designed this bottle without much purpose. My skills were not quite developed enough to understand my role in a higher level goal. I wasn’t designing for anyone but myself and I have since come to realize the lack of effect in designing like that.
